Beautiful little father son moment over here. How incredible that Bradley & Jakob sing together on a track as the first new #Sublime song in 28 years. This track took a minute to make it to wax as it was first released as a single in May of ‘24. Brad’s freestyle part from an outtake recorded during 1996 sessions and Jakob contributing vocals along with Scott Woodruff of #stickfigure . Very cool story how this came together.
My recent father-son moment had me thinking about the time I do have, legacy, and what we pass on; like culture and art to the next generations. My 13yo son (closer to 14 at this point) took his first sort of paying job as a dog walker for a neighbor this week. He’s had me go with him the first few times to make sure it all goes smoothly and to cut a good path for the dog’s size and temperate (not to mention the summer heat). …Anyway; the point is; I’m loving that as we walk together, he wants to start having music convos now as he begins choosing his own favorite bands, artists, and songs. He asks me about songs that make me feel nostalgic and he shares his version of that (for songs from way back when he was 9yo). He still doesn’t like waiting on /watching me dig through record store crates. Actually, when I stopped to pick this single up, he was annoyed at my relatively quick search through the new arrivals bin until I pointed out Eminem’s kamikaze. He does allow me to send him song / artist recommendations on our family Tidal account. Speaking of that; I am grateful that we live in a time when technology can make a duet like this from the Nowell/ Sublime family possible and breathe life into what we’re pieces and that it came together over time, different musicians, and producers. Pretty rad Jakob thinks of Bud and Eric as uncles and they can honor his dad\ band mate by keeping the music alive and even making something new with it. The band is touring again and has already released another new single “Ensenada” (that I’m diggin’) and can’t wait to hear release details of the new album being produced by Travis Barker.
Just got my mind on taking advantage of my own parent-child time and just trying to make the best of it, sharing music, taking it all in, and enjoying it.
#ParkersPlaylist just over here in my feels with a little father-son time; cuz I #feelLikeThat
