B side: Trailer

1985

Label: MCA

Gone Gator Music

At the risk of sounding like a soccer mom cheering up their kiddo that didn’t get any playing time in the match… ‘just because you’re not the A-side or a hit single and were left off the album doesn’t mean you’re any less special.’ 😆

Our A-side here: “Don’t Come Around Here No More” from the Southern Accents album peak at no.13 on billboard and the album rose to no.7 for #tompettyandtheheartbreakers

Obviously, our B-side #Trailer didn’t make that album cut as it was trimmed to nine songs from a double album. This version of the song finally shows up again in 1995 on the Playback box set, disc 4 “the other sides”.

In 2016 the song gets a makeover / re-recorded for #Mudcrutch 2. That version was a promo single as an RSD exclusive in April limited to 5k press.

From our collecting perspective this song rarity actually makes it all the more special. So, it never really was the red-headed step child left out on the playground. Probably would’ve made Southern Accents a more rounded album or at least a step closer to the concept.

Are feeling like a B-side today? Like you are seen as less commercially viable or thematically inconsistent with the rest of the album? Feeling like you might be considered a weaker track, experimental, or simply not fitting the overall tone? Maybe seeing yourself in the demo phase, not the polished/ cohesive piece ready for a studio album???

Well, you are not reading this by mistake.

#ParkersPlaylist here with good news; we love B-sides! You are rare, hard to find, limited, and we’re thinking ready for release.
